Why join Roadhoggs?

Running with a group is more fun and, particularly during the dark winter evenings, it can be safer too. It is easier to motivate yourself when you know you will be running with others. You will learn new routes and you can stretch yourself by running with the faster runners or have an easier workout with the slower ones, depending on how you feel. In the summer we base some of our training in the Leicestershire countryside, so that we can run more interesting routes, using footpaths as well as roads.  

Membership costs just £30 a year (£20 concessions). For this you get several benefits:

• You can enter races at the “attached” rate, which usually saves you £2 each time.
• You can run in the Leicestershire Road Running League Winter League races, which are only open to members of affiliated clubs, and the club will even pay your entry fee (£2.50 per race).
• You can run in Derby Runner Cross Country events, which are only open to members of affiliated clubs, and again, the club will pay your entry fee (£3 per race).
• Free entry for the Livingston and Round Leicester relays.
• No training fees.
• When you run your first league race for the club you will receive a club running vest.
• You can buy club kit at subsidised rates (see the kit page).
• Members qualify for a 10% discount at The Leicester Running Shop, Running Fox and The Derby Runner.
• All members who satisfy some basic criteria can be entered into a draw for the Club’s London Marathon place(s).
• Regular newsletters and information about upcoming events.

If you would like to join the club, you can download a membership form. You can either send the form (and cheque) to the printed address or give it to one of the committee at a training night.

Affiliation

Roadhoggs are affiliated to The Association of Running Clubs (ARC) and England Athletics. We also pay for our competing members to be registered as individuals with England Athletics. This provides them with a competition licence and a unique runner number (URN) and various other benefits including a 10% discount at Sweatshop. Many national and some local races (e.g. the Belvoir Half Marathon) are now requiring entrants to provide their URN in order to qualify for the cheaper 'attached' entry fee.
